Getting started with 3d printing

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 11:52:29 PM America/Los_Angeles

3D printing is one of the rapid prototyping manufacturing technologies, is based on the digital model file, using adhesive materials such as power metal and plastic, printing layer by layer to construct the object body.

Comparing with traditional manufacturing mode, 3d printing is more suitable to produce a more complicated object and product customization, meanwhile, it could save a lot of material cost. Currently, this advanced manufacturing mode has already been applied to many fields such as medical treatment, education, industry, and creative production, etc.

However, some people are just at the beginning of 3D printing, knowing about the 3d printer just in the conceptual stage, below we’re helping you know more about 3D printing.

1, modeling

3D printing, in the end, is a manufacturing style, the key point is in the manufacturing target, i.e the model you’re building, and the designing process is in the modeling.

Normally two ways on making a model, the first is manual modeling, using the software like 3d-max, Maya, Z-brush, etc., the second is 3d scanning, using the 3d scanner to scan the object to make a digital model format.

2, Slicing

You can begin model slicing after you already have the model. Slicing is the process to transfer the 3d digital model to the recognizable walking path and filament extruding amount, so this step is very crucial.

Loading the model to software and click slicing, you can send the file to the 3d printer after slicing finished.

3, Printing

This is the process to make a digital format to a touchable object. Finding the file and begin printing, the software will record printing speed, time, filament quantity, after printing-head temperature arise, printing will begin.
